VectorNet is the European Network for gathering and sharing data on the geographic distribution of arthropod vectors, that can transmit human and animal disease agents.
The project is funded jointly by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC, Stockholm, Sweden) and the European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA, Parma, Italy).
VectorNet maintains a vector distribution database for European and Mediterranean countries, and provides this data through the publication of a series of distribution maps of the main vectors in Europe, i.e. mosquitoes, sand flies, biting midges and ticks, on a quarterly basis. During the course of the VectorNet project field studies are planned to fill gaps in the knowledge on the distribution of these main vectors.
In 2017, the third fieldwork programme will carry out entomological surveillance in 25 countries.
