Job description
The jobholder will report to the Head of the Microbiology Coordination Section.
He/She will be responsible in particular for the following areas of work:

  • Contribute to the evidence-based prioritisation, strategic alignment and technicalcoordination of microbiology related activities and projects of the Centre, in particularsteering the design, cost-effective management and public health added value ofExternal Quality Assessment schemes supported by ECDC;
  • Lead the development of the ECDC strategy and Action Plan for microbiology capacitybuilding activities and laboratory preparedness support in collaboration with expertsacross units, competent bodies of the Member States and external partners and inalignment with EU laboratory strategy;
  • Contribute to the annual/multiannual work planning for the implementation of theECDC Public Health Microbiology strategy;
  • Oversee and deliver Public Health Microbiology coordination projects and consultation activities; Provide scientific and technical advice on microbiology issues, fostering a high scientificstandard in microbiology-related activities and outputs of the Centre;
  • Provide microbiology expertise in support of health threat detection, response and rapid risk assessments, including for the interpretation of complex laboratory data;
  • Provide scientific evidence to the Commission on developing the EU laboratory strategy and reference laboratory preparedness support, in close technical liaison with relevant EU Health Agencies and initiatives;
  • Oversee the planning, preparation and management of annual meetings and liaison with the relevant competent bodies of the Member States;
  • Provide technical expert support for ECDC country visits and training initiatives tostrengthen microbiology capacity of the Member States;
  •  Provide scientific evidence in response to questions from the European Parliament, the Commission and Member States;
  • Contribute to other activities of ECDC, as required, in his/her field of expertise and participate in the 24/7 duty system of ECDC when necessary.
