For over 20 years, PulseNet, the national laboratory network that detects foodborne disease outbreaks, has prevented illness and saved money. PulseNet helps public health scientists identify and solve outbreaks of foodborne illness in the United States. PulseNet recently updated the technology it uses to detect outbreaks. This new technology, whole genome sequencing, gives public health scientists more information than ever before about the foodborne bacteria that make people sick.
