FSAI Vacancy - Chief Executive Officer

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland is a statutory, independent and science-based agency, dedicated to protecting public health and consumer interests in the area of food safety and hygiene. The overall mission of the FSAI is to take all reasonable steps to ensure that food consumed, distributed, marketed or produced in Ireland, meets the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

The Chief Executive Officer drives the development and implementation of FSAI strategies and policies to world-class levels. S/he provides leadership and direction to the FSAI in order to ensure that the Irish food regulatory programme is risk-based, consistent and proportionate and complies with European regulatory standards.

The successful candidate will have a third level qualifi cation in an appropriate technical or scientifi c discipline relate to food safety, and/or have a post-graduate qualifi cation in this area. They should have proven leadership and senior management experience either in a scientifi c role or in the food sector, and preferably exposure to, or experience of working in, a regulatory environment. They must have strong people, organisational and management skills and demonstrate sound judgement, problem solving and decision making skills. Excellent inter-personal, communications, infl uencing and negotiation skills and the drive necessary to implement the Authority’s strategy are fundamental requirements.


The position of Chief Executive shall be for a period of five years.
