The first European food safety risk assessment fellowship programme (EU-FORA) was successfully launched last September with the opening of EFSA’s Executive Director of the three weeks induction training for the 15 selected fellows coming from 11 different Member States. The 15 fellows have started their one year learning-by-doing placement in 8 different hosting organisations in 7 Member States.

EFSA’s EU-FORA programme team is now preparing the second round of the programme, which will be running from September 2018 to August 2019, and offer competent organisations and their employees to participate by applying to two new calls:

1) HOSTING SITES - the call for proposals (grant) inviting the interested Art.36 list competent organisations to apply, deadline is 22 December 2017;

2) FELLOWS  - the call for expression of interest for attracting scientists, deadline is 15 January 2018.

The informative  dedicated  EU-FORA webpages have been updated and completed with some new features such as a short snap shot interview video with testimonies of several ‘pioneer’ fellows participating to the currently running first cycle.

New for this call (in order to support and strengthen cooperation and in some cases helping to overcome some administrative hurdles), we offer the possibility to create a consortium between national Art. 36 organisations either within the same Member State or between different Member States. For example, a national competent authority or institute could create a  consortium with a competent academia in the same Member State, or two competent organisations  from different Member States  having an ongoing or future common food safety related project could apply as a consortium. The fellow will, however, need to be located in one organisation and city during the 12 month placement period and no extra travel arrangements can be covered by EFSA.
