The Next Phase of safefood Childhood Obesity Campaign

The next phase of safefood’s childhood obesity campaign is about to start and so we wanted to share a quick update. We have continued to make small steps and we would like to share some of our plans for the next phase of the campaign.

As you may be aware the campaign focuses on communicating practical solutions that parents can adopt in order to tackle the everyday habits that are associated with excess weight in childhood.

The next phase will roll out on Monday, 31st March 2014 with a focus on encouraging families to be more active.

The key messages will encourage parents to get their children to be active for at least 60 minutes a day that it doesn’t have to be all at once and it doesn’t have to be sport. This can be simply be kicking a ball, playing hopscotch or playing a game of hide-and-seek. In summary we want to bring back play.

Our hope is to remind people of the fun and memories made while we were children. It can be kicking a ball in the park, hopscotch, hide-and-seek, red-rover and so on. Being active doesn’t have to be an organised sport and doesn’t have to be all at once – it can be broken down into smaller bursts of activity.

We welcome and encourage you to communicate and share campaign materials. For this phase the campaign we are using the hashtag #bringbackplay
