Scientific & Technical Officer - Remote Sensing

Summary of the Position

The individual will be responsible for building on a basic capacity existing in the Marine Institute in the area of remote sensing of the ocean and at the land ocean interface. While use is already made of satellite data for model validation and for climate studies there are extensive opportunities to broaden this work in particular looking at the use of satellites for ocean productivity, ocean clarity, dynamics in the surface ocean and the use of satellites to map near shore bathymetry and algal biomass resources. The individual will be responsible for developing the Institute’s role in accessing, utilising and visualising Earth Observation data sets from the ESA and NASA catalogue of products and any others of relevance that are in the public domain and validated. The STO Remote sensing will also target new funding initiatives in remote sensing so that the team can be augmented with R&D funding as appropriate
