BEIJING, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) - Pesticide and chemical residue is the major sources of food contamination in China, the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) has found.
Pesticide residue was detected in 146 kinds of fruit and vegetable in the past three years, with detection rates ranging from 54 percent to 96.9 percent, said the CAE in its report on food safety in China.
Research also revealed antibiotic misuse in animal and marine farming, and that contaminants, including heavy metals and mycotoxins, have hampered the safety of grains in China.
