Listeria Network Regional Workshops

Over the last few months a successful series of workshops were held. These were aimed at upskilling staff at food processing facilities who wouldn’t necessarily have a scientific background, on understanding contamination, covering basic hygiene issues. Four events were held at Gorey, Co Wicklow, Skibbereen and Fermoy, Co. Cork, Ennis, Co. Clareand Galway. There were approximately 80 participants in all, representing over 30 food businesses. The topics covered included basic microbiology, laboratory methods to trace contamination and basic hygiene methods that can help control contamination. The successful series of workshops will continue in the Autumn.

The next workshop on basic hygiene aspects with respect to Listeria will be held in Tullamore at the Tullamore Court Hotel on October 18th. It will start at 11.00 am and finish with tea/coffee at 1.00 pm. There is no charge for the workshop as it is supported by safefood, The Food Safety Promotions Board. The workshop is aimed at staff working in food businesses that may not have a scientific background.
