The Integrated Approaches to Food allergen and Allergy management (iFAAM) project brings together leading experts in food allergy from the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA in order to develop tools for the management of allergens in food.

One aspect of the research is to understand industry, retail and supplier attitudes to the use of reference doses for determining risk thresholds for precautionary allergen labelling and associated strategies such as the Voluntary Incidental Trace Allergen Labelling (VITAL).  Suitable labelling to communicate accurate and helpful information on the absence/presence of allergens in food products is also being investigated and input from food business operators is sought in this regard.
