Dear members,

As you’re aware, safefood’s primary function is to bring about general acceptance that responsibility for the provision of safe and healthy food is shared among producers, processors, distributors at all levels, caterers and the general public across the island of Ireland (IOI). To help us do that, safefood exercises its legislative remit to promote research into all aspects of food safety and nutrition, including identifying priorities for research, commissioning and funding projects as necessary to fill identified gaps, disseminating findings to relevant interests, and also recommending action arising from those research findings.

safefood has publically commissioned and funded over 120 projects during the past 15 years or so across the island [http://www.safefood.eu/Professional/Research-Portfolio.aspx] Working with key stakeholders in research and other institutions during this time, safefood has fostered all-island working relationships, enhanced partnerships between research institutions across IOI, and facilitated the employment of over 515 researchers on various food safety and nutrition projects.

safefood is currently considering our food safety research prioritisation over the next three years and would like to invite you to advise on food safety issues of significance that we might focus on and share any observations you might have on the significant issues, gaps and challenges being faced that requires research to elucidate.

safefood considers the entire food chain in its outlook on research, and welcomes short contributions which might focus on the topic or issue of concern; its significance; and how research will provide the added value in enhancing food safety.

All contributions and feedback are welcome and can be sent to research@safefood.eu and if possible, we would be delighted to receive any feedback by Friday 20th May 2016.
