Cork City Council has said tests have shown that the local water supply was not the source of an outbreak of cryptosporidium in the city suburb of Bishopstown.
A number of children were affected by the bug which causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea. Cryptosporidium usually enters water systems via human and animal waste but can also be passed from animal to person and from person to person.
Two children were hospitalised as a result of the Bishopstown outbreak and have since been discharged.
Cork City Council administration officer Michael Sheehan said the council was informed of the outbreak last Friday and immediately sampled water in the Bishopstown area.
The samples were sent to Dublin for tests and have come back 100% clear of the bug, Mr Sheehan confirmed.
"All water supplies in the Bishopstown area are clear," he said.
HSE South was informed of the outbreak.
