Introduction to new bioactive database (Plant food supplements, bioactives, composition, benefit and adverse effects)
Jenny Plumb, database manager of Food Databanks National Capability, will be presenting an online demonstration of the newly developed ePlantLIBRA database. ePlantLIBRA offers a user-friendly and efficient interface for searching, extracting and exporting data on bioactive compounds in fruits, vegetables and plant food supplements (PFS), with links back to original published references. The database can be used by policy providers, food/PFS industry and consumers' organizations as well as supporting research in the scientific community.
Cardiovascular benefits of dietary polyphenols: From basic research to health claims
Dr Paul Kroon, Polyphenols & Health Research Group Leader at the Institute of Food Research, will talk about main challenges to achieving health claims with polyphenols, the need for basic research to underpin health claims and specific strategies that focus on overcoming the challenges. His talk will also cover how the FP7 BACCHUS project is making advances in this area.
