Background to Workshop:
As part of the UK Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund exploratory work, leading edge healthcare and medicine was identified as one of the ten Key Pillars. Within this, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as a key focus for the UK - the O’Neill report on AMR reported 10 million extra deaths per year with costs of up to $100tn to the global economy, by 2050. There is significant commercial, scientific and public health interest in emerging solutions in this area which utilise new technologies and treatments to reduce AMR by 50% by 2025/30.
Solutions which focus on improving patient outcomes require new technologies to improve agriculture, food production and healthcare as part of the “One Health” approach. Such technologies will include bio advances, new diagnostics, novel data analysis and new application of technology for improved infection prevention and control.
Due to Northern Ireland’s close linkage between agriculture, food production and health, NI can position itself as a UK leader in the development and commercialisation of solutions with global impact and significance. This workshop will share knowledge and provide clarification on some of the emerging unmet needs, market demands and showcase emerging technology solutions.
