Guest of Honour: Stephen Pugh, Course Coordinator, Better Training, Safer Food, European Commission
This seminar will be an opportunity to discuss next steps for food labelling and consumer information policy in the UK.
Delegates will discuss the impact of the EU referendum on the UK food industry’s preparations to implement the European Commission’s new Food Information to Consumer regulations (FIC) which become mandatory from December 2016 - and the longer term future of labelling policy.
It also takes place against a backdrop of significant developments in relevant UK food and nutrition policy including the Government’s childhood obesity strategy and Public Health England’s recent sugar reduction report, with proposals including separating free sugars from total sugars on food packaging and clearer portion sizing information.
Further planned sessions will also assess the future of country-of-origin, after recent calls by MPs for clearer origin labelling to support UK farming, next steps for GMO labelling, and progress on the enforcement of food regulations.
