The Uppsala Health Summit 2015 will focus on antibiotic resistance, an urgent topic and an increasing threat to public health worldwide. Massive consumption of antibiotics in humans and animals and insufficient infection control have resulted in emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria, and the need for new and more effective antibiotics has not been met. We are already facing bacterial infections that cannot be treated. In May 2015, the World Health Assembly is expected to adopt the Global Action Plan on antimicrobial resistance. At Uppsala Health Summit we will discuss the next steps: How can we operationalize the actions needed? To do this, we invite initiated experts and stakeholders representing different countries, contexts, institutions, and perspectives to share their ideas and insights.
