Overview

As of 13 December 2014, the ‘Food Information to Consumers Regulation’ (EU 1169/2011 – also known as ‘FIC’ or ‘FIR’) will be applicable in full swing and have tremendous impacts on all actors involved in the food and drink industry. As is well known, the legislation sets out a standardized format on how information should be displayed on product packaging, in order for consumers to make informed decisions about the food they buy. However, food and drink operators are still struggling on how these various provisions can or ought to be implemented and have to deal with questions such as: What is fair information? How can retailers comply with these provisions? Can the rules on distance-selling work? In what way can allergens be distinguished?

These issues and many more will be covered by this year’s EFFL Conference “Food Information to Consumers – Ready to take up the Challenge”, which will be held in Vienna on 16-17 October 2014.

In order to allow a "360° insight" into the issue speakers from European institutions (i.e. the Commission, EFSA), national authorities, industry, private legal practice as well as academia are currently being invited to present their views. This two-day event is an indispensable update for all those interested to boost their food information law expertise.

The EFFL Conference is an established annual event organized under the auspices of the European Food and Feed Law Review. It is tailored to the needs and interests of those who are daily exposed to European food law & policy and leadership in the food law practice.
