The International Society for Infectious Diseases is delighted to announce that our next meeting will be held in Cape Town, South Africa from the 2nd to the 5th April 2014. The ISID has always had its focus on the global burden of infectious diseases and it is important for us to announce our return to Africa some 20 years after the last meeting of the Society there in Kenya in 1992.

The meeting will encompass all of the fields in infectious diseases with particular attention being paid to the major infectious causes of death in Africa and elsewhere, which include AIDS, malaria, TB, pneumonia and enteric infections including typhoid fever and diarrhea. In all of these fields there are exciting interventions underway in Africa, the results of which will be presented in Cape Town. In addition there are major areas of neglected tropical diseases that will be discussed and a particular focus will be on the largely uncounted burden of nosocomial infections in developing countries.
