This involves identifying food safety issues, deciding on priorities for improvements, finding interventions, developing an action plan, implementing interventions and monitoring performance.</p>

<p>Local authority officers feared information was vulnerable to manipulation by food businesses and problems could be missed resulting in public health risks. There was also the inability to use instincts and sensory awareness to assess the business such as the loss of smell to detect pests and being unable to see how staff interact.</p>

<p>This consultation concerns the operation of the statutory food hygiene rating scheme in Northern Ireland.</p>
<p>When Regulation (EU) 2017/625 repealed and replaced Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 on 14 December 2019, it impacted the operation of the statutory food hygiene rating scheme in Northern Ireland (NI) insofar as statutory food hygiene ratings could no longer be issued.</p>

In total, 652 hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs failed their latest food safety inspections for reasons including inspectors discovering seafood past its expiry date, raw meat stored next to sauces and high-risk food stored without temperature controls, according to a survey conducted by Which?
