The jobholder will work with a team of technical and administrative staff undertaking the enforcement of food safety laws and managing food incidents and will complete projects and develop guidance on legislation and enforcement practice within the environmental health service and deputise for the Chief Specialist, Environmental Health as required.

The Biotoxin Chemistry Laboratory Analyst will work as part of the Shellfish Safety Unit Team. This team is responsible for a wide range of monitoring and analytical services to clients including the Government, Food Safety Authority of Ireland, the Shellfish Industry and the EU. The Shellfish Safety Unit is the National Reference Laboratory for Marine Biotoxins in Ireland. The unit is part of the Marine Environment & Food Safety Services, which operates a number of programmes, and has engaged in an active Laboratory Accreditation programme.

Duration of Contract:
This temporary specified purpose opportunity will be for a duration up to the 30th September 2020, providing redeployment cover. The successful candidate will be on probation for the first six months of this contract.
